Closing The Case On Vijay Salgaonkar
For nearly a decade, Vijay Salgaonkar managed to stay ahead of the police. Now, actor Ajay Devgn says it is time to close the famous case. He feels confident the franchise is going out at its absolute peak. Devgn spoke with producer Alok Jain at the FICCI Frames event. He explained exactly why Drishyam: The Conclusion will be the last Hindi film. He also discussed calling the man who first played the iconic role. Devgn wanted Malayalam star Mohanlal to give the new film his blessing. Devgn reached out personally because the Hindi version diverted completely from the original.
Quitting While Ahead
He wanted Mohanlal to see the film, but the actor was on holiday. Devgn did not hedge when discussing the quality of the new movie. He watched the finished film and stated his verdict very clearly. "We want to end it on a high," Devgn explained to the audience. He feels the script shaped up perfectly, making this the right time to stop. He stated his personal opinion is that this film beats Drishyam 2. He wants to respect the audience's goodwill rather than testing it further. The new chapter marks the biggest departure yet from the Malayalam source material.
An Older, Calmer Character
The writers worked incredibly hard on the script for nearly two years. As for the main character, Devgn says Vijay cannot be completely reinvented. The story picks up exactly where it left off previously. What has changed significantly is how Devgn plays the aging protagonist. Years of experience bring a certain calmness and confidence to the performance. The film opens in theatres across the UAE on October 2.
