According to health officials in Catalonia, yesterday a 51-year-old German woman succumbed to the injuries caused by the brutal vehicle attack on 17th August in Barcelona. With her death, the death toll increased to 14. As per the regional health department, the woman was reported dead in the intensive care of Hospital del Mar in Barcelona.
In the attack, more than 120 people were injured. According to the authorities, there are 5 critical cases recorded out of the 24 that remain hospitalized after the attack.
Recent attacks in Spain are recorded at 16. The night of the van attack, the car driver made his getaway using a man’s car whom he had stabbed to death in the attempt to take his car. On August 18th, another woman had died in a knife and vehicle attack near Cambrils.
This Saturday, a peace procession was witnessed in the heart of Barcelona, where 500,000 people protested against the violence and projected unified strength.
The Spanish monarch, King Felipe VI along with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and other officials also took part in the march alongside rest of the people. Ripoll, known to be the home to many of the attackers, also saw a separate march for anti-violence.
Reportedly, 8 alleged attackers are dead, 2 have been jailed for terrorism and homicide, another 2 were released by a judge but they are still under investigation.
