NATO Clip About Fighters Against Soviet Gov't in Baltic Disgusting - Zakharova

The spokeswoman of Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova criticized on Thursday a NATO made clip about the "freedom fighters" in the Baltic states, who fought against Soviet government in late 40-s and early 50-s, many of whom served in Nazi battalions during World War II.

On Wednesday, NATO published a documentary clip on its Twitter page about the so-called Forest Brothers presenting them as heroes, who fought against Soviet government for the independence of their countries.

"I remember that a half year ago the world community, including the mainstream media, was discussing whether it could be allowed to stage a dance on the topic of the Holocaust. I hope that the same people, who claim that they are not indifferent to careful approach to tragic pages of the history, would assess NATO's disgusting action. I hope there is no need to remind about the massive slaughters, in which those, who later called themselves Forest Brothers, were involved," Zakharova said on Facebook.

The spokeswoman added that such actions intended to undermine the results of the Nuremberg process.

The so-called Forest Brothers actively fought against Soviet government in 1944-1953 on the territory of the current Baltic states. Many of them previously served in the ranks of local Nazi battalions.
