Mumbai Indians Announce Four New Coaches as Robin Uthappa Joins Kieron Pollard

Five-Time IPL Champions Revamp Coaching Team Ahead of IPL 2027

Mumbai Indians have announced four new coaching appointments as the franchise prepares for the 2027 Indian Premier League season. Former India batter Robin Uthappa has been named batting coach, joining head coach Kieron Pollard as part of a revamped support team. Mitchell McClenaghan will oversee the bowling department, while T Dilip takes charge of fielding. Former Indian fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni has also joined as development bowling coach, strengthening the franchise’s focus on player development and performance.

Robin Uthappa Returns in a New Role

Uthappa, who represented Mumbai Indians during the inaugural IPL season in 2008, returns to the franchise with extensive experience in Indian and franchise cricket. He was also part of India’s victorious squad at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. In his new role, he will work on improving the team’s batting performances, helping players make better tactical decisions and adapting to the changing demands of T20 cricket. His appointment follows Pollard’s promotion from batting coach to head coach.

McClenaghan, Dilip and Kulkarni Complete the Coaching Group

New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan returns as bowling coach after representing Mumbai Indians between 2015 and 2020. He was part of four IPL title-winning campaigns with the franchise. T Dilip joins the team after working with the Indian men’s side, including during major international tournament victories. Meanwhile, Dhawal Kulkarni, a two-time IPL champion with Mumbai, will focus on developing bowling talent, particularly young Indian players. His responsibilities will also support the franchise’s long-term talent development programme.

Pollard Leads Mumbai Indians into a New Chapter

The appointments mark a significant change in Mumbai Indians’ coaching structure following the departure of Mahela Jayawardene and changes among the previous support staff. Pollard, whose association with the franchise spans 16 years, will lead the new group as the team targets a stronger campaign in IPL 2027. The former West Indies all-rounder brings considerable experience from his playing career and previous coaching role. Mumbai Indians will now look to combine familiar faces with fresh ideas to strengthen their squad and challenge for another IPL title.
