Restaurant in Yorkshire Village Wins “Best Restaurant In The World” Award

The brothers said initially it started off as just a pub where their friends would come over to enjoy a drink.

An international TripAdvisor poll has named The Black Swan in Oldstead, North Yorkshire as the “best restaurant in the world” based on customer reviews. The brothers who own the restaurant took over the village pub as teenagers over a decade ago.

The honor makes it the first British restaurant to win the title according to the website. James and Tommy Banks were just 17 and 18 when they took over the pub from their parents in 2006.
James and Tommy have played to their strengths perfectly as James runs the front of house operation while Tommy produces the magic in the kitchen.

The Black Swan saw off stiff competition from popular restaurants such as The Fat Duck, owned by Heston Blumenthal and Le Manoir, owned by Raymond Blanc. The restaurant has got a Michelin star too.

The restaurant prides itself on home-grown ingredients and backing those claims are the two-and-a-half acres of land on which the restaurant resides. Almost all of the fruits and vegetables are grown on their parents’ farm or on-site.

TripAdvisor said that millions of customers reviewed various restaurants over a 12-month period to select the winner.
