The world’s best footballer has auctioned his Ballon d’Or trophy, the very trophy which validates him as the world’s best footballer. Ronaldo has won 4 Ballon d’Ors in his career. He raised $7,05,000 for charity by donating the trophy which he won in 2013.
The trophy was bought by an Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer. The trophy was on auction at a function hosted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation in London. Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes was there to present the trophy to the winning bidder.
Marca, a Spanish news agency reported that the trophy is a replica of the 2013 Ballon d’Or which was made as per Ronaldo’s request. The real original trophy is still on show at Ronaldo’s museum in his hometown of Madeira.
Ronaldo works with many charities worldwide and has paid medical bills of many children on multiple occasions.
Manchester rivals Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola were also said to be a part of the auction as they agreed to take part in a meet and greet which is said to be organized after a boxing match in Manchester. The ticket is said to be worth 30,000 euros each.
