10 Minutes Of Brain Exercise A Day Is All You Need To Achieve Goals

Called neuroplasticity, the brain has the ability to rewire or reorganize itself. Improving brainpower is not rocket science, all you need is some dedication towards the same. If you are taking out 40 minutes a day for physical exercise, you just need to take out 10 minutes more of your time for brain exercise. Here are some easy activities that you can do every day.

  1. Switch hands: For instance, if you are a leftie, write with your right hand for ten minutes or vice versa everyday.
  2. Play a musical instrument every day at least for 10 minutes.
  3. Practice breathing : This can fit into your regular fitness routine.
  4. John Stroop Test: Write colour names using alternate coloured inks.
  5. 5.Play chess with yourself: Come back next day and start from where you left.

Both left and right brain are responsible for certain types of functions. In lay terms, the right brain looks at the larger picture and is creative, while the left brain deals with the details and is logical. However, let's not lose sight of the fact that it is ultimately just one brain. Like any other machinery, the brain too works most efficiently when all its parts work in harmony as a single cohesive unit.

Author Daniel Pink in his book, "A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future" describes two types of thinking, L-Directed Thinking, which is left brain thinking, usually sequential, literal, and analytic and R-Directed Thinking, which is metaphorical, aesthetic, and contextual. "Both approaches are necessary to build productive lives," he says. All you need is ten minutes of simple brain exercise every day to improve whole brained thinking and achieving goals.
