11. Ivanka And Working Mothers
It’s rare that she gets caught up in rumours and controversy but when you have empires of your own, people will want to get in on the action. Ivanka has become the poster child of women’s rights, especially for mums who work. She has previously said:
“When a woman becomes a mother, she is supported, not shut out. . . . Gender is no longer the factor creating the greatest wage discrepancy in this country; motherhood is.” She gleamed at the crowd, dressed in a bubblegum-pink shift dress from her own collection. “Policies that allow women with children to thrive should not be novelties. They should be the norm.”
Sounds great for all working mothers out there, only we then found out the company that manufacturers her clothing line enforces a maternity policy that goes against what Ivanka says. The company G-III doesn’t offer maternity leave – only the minimal 12 weeks of unpaid leave.
