Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are not reconciling despite a recent report suggesting that their divorce proceedings are on hold and that Jolie is still in love with him, TMZ said.
TMZ said the estranged Hollywood super couple have in fact been hashing out both child custody and property settlements. The divorce “is full steam ahead.”
One key reason they will never reconcile is that Jolie, 42, made “extremely damaging allegations” against Pitt, 53, claiming he was abusive to their six children. Jolie filed for divorce, shortly after Pitt got into some kind of altercation with their oldest son, Maddox, 16, on a private plane returning from Europe. The allegations triggered multiple investigations, including by the FBI, that ultimately exonerated Pitt.
But a cover story in Us Weekly last week offered a different view of the couple’s status.
Us Weekly said that Jolie had been bereft in the year since she abruptly launched high-stakes, high-profile divorce and child custody proceedings against Pitt. The couple had been together for 12 years and married for two years. Their kids are Maddox, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11 and 9-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Us Weekly also said the couple hadn’t done much in the past several months to move the divorce forward. To sources who spoke to Us Weekly, this inaction indicates that Jolie isn’t just “second-guessing her choice” but that “the divorce is off” and the couple “may be headed for a full recovery.”
To insiders, Jolie’s indecision about the divorce was “shocking” considering the scorched-earth method she employed to cut ties with Pitt, Us Weekly said. As a recent Vanity Fair profile says, things between Jolie and Pitt had been rocky for quite some time, even though they made their union legal in an intimate 2014 wedding.
But perhaps Jolie’s scorched-earth approach was “a sign of how much passion she still holds for him, a source told Us Weekly.
“It wouldn’t be surprising if they announced that they’re calling it off and trying to work things out,” a source told Us Weekly.
