Nothing compares to the magical moment when a bride says yes to her dress. It’s one of the happiest moments of planning a wedding, but for Élise Boissonneault, the moment would lead to an emotional rollercoaster that she’d never anticipated.
After finding the gown of her dreams, Boissonneault lost it shortly after due to a wildfire that devastated her Alberta community of Fort McMurray.
The fire destroyed a large part of the area leading to mass evacuations and uncertain futures for the residents.
One of the biggest decisions faced by the people evacuating was what to take with them from home. We couldn’t imagine being in that position and our hearts broke upon learning that Boissonneault’s dream dress was lost in the fire.
The bride-to-be was incredibly upset by the loss, but she and her fiancé decided that they needed to head to Toronto for their wedding regardless of the unfortunate events taking place back home.
“If I had to get married in jeans and a t-shirt, that would be fine,” Boissonneault told CBC, but thanks to the kind-hearted people of Toronto, she didn’t have to.
After her friends posted a photo to Facebook of her in her original wedding dress, the post was flooded with responses from women all over the city who were looking to help make Boissonneault’s big day a special one.
People offered her more than 100 dresses to choose from! She was offered other free services in addition to that for things such as hairstyling and jewelry. It’s so beautiful that so much love and support came from strangers during such a harrowing time. Boissonneault was overwhelmed with the generosity of the strangers.
“You don’t expect this to happen and then for people to put out this much love and support,” said Boissonneault.
We can’t believe the love and support from the Torontonians either. Their kindness and willingness to help is inspiring. It’s amazing how so many people pulled together to give the couple a truly amazing day during such a difficult time in their lives, as well as the community’s as a whole.
Boissonneault was inspired by the help and love that she got in her time of need. After the wedding, she plans on returning to Fort McMurray as soon as possible to help people in her community any way that she can.
“I didn’t think there was that kind of kindness in the world,” she said. “It’s just awesome.”
