Cannes 2017: Nicole Kidman joins Colin Farrell at red carpet premiere after film is booed at festival

Nicole Kidman joined co-star Colin Farrell on the red carpet for the premiere of their latest film just hours after it was booed at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Australian star embraced old-school Hollywood glamour in a Grace Kelly-inspired gown for the official launch of Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing of the Sacred Deer at the Grand Palais on Monday night.

The 49-year-old waved to the crowds as she posed for pictures with Irish star Farrell, with whom she also stars in Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled.

She was on the same red carpet just 24 hours earlier for the premiere of another of her films, How to Talk to Girls at Parties.

The A-list pair were joined by Eva Longoria, Jourdan Dunn, Juliette Binoche, Miuccia Prada, Sara Sampaio and Andie MacDowell.

Lanthimos' eagerly-awaited follow-up to The Lobster has been one of the most polarising films of the festival, receiving both cheers and boos when it screened to press earlier in the day.

The unsettling psychological thriller, about a woman whose children suddenly become paralysed, proved too graphic and extreme for some audience members, with many audibly booing at the screen.

“This film, my children will not be seeing. Actually, my children don't really see my films. Our family is very separate to my creative life,” Kidman said at the press conference. “Occasionally, I'll do something for them where they can come on set. I did Paddington, but they have very little understanding of what my husband (country singer Keith Urban) and I do.”

As well as her three films, Kidman is also promoting the new series of Top of the Lake at this year’s festival.

“That's a confluence of events - that's not something I was aware would be happening,” she said.
