Deepika Padukone, Who Battled Depression, Reveals Her Fear Of Relapse

Deepika Padukone said that her phase of depression was "a bad experience" and she constantly fears a relapse. At a summit in New Delhi, Deepika said: "I don't think I can say that I'm completely over it (depression).

There is always a fear at the back of my mind that I might have a relapse because it has been such a bad experience for me," reports news agency PTI. Deepika Padukone features in December-release Padmavati and recently it was reported that while filming the jauhar scene, the actress was 'deeply disturbed.' A source told Deccan Chronicle:

"Deepika has already spoken about clinical depression earlier in her career. Hence, she does not want to do anything that will take her back to that space." In Padmavati, Deepika plays Rani Padmini of Chittor, who allegedly performed jauhar with several Rajput women after Alauddin Khilji invaded their fort.

At the summit, Deepika Padukone also said that she may have lost some roles after she opened up about her battle with depression but that doesn't affect her. "Maybe there are people who haven't offered me films because they think I was depressed and I can't act. Maybe, I don't know. I'm in a good space because I can choose the movies that I want to act in, but I don't think everyone has that luxury of where they want to work or when they want to work," she said.

"I didn't think about the repercussions (of opening about her personal experience). The idea really was to change the way people in India and the world see mental illness," she added.

Deepika Padukone has talked about battling depression at length and has initiated Live Love Laugh foundation, which aims to help people fight mental illness.

Padmavati, which also stars Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, releases on December 1. Deepika Padukone was last seen in Hollywood film xXx: Return Of Xander Cage. She also has a Vishal Bhardwaj-produced film, co-starring Irrfan Khan, in the pipeline.
