FIRST ON 5: Clarksburg police investigating viral video

Clarksburg police have confirmed they're investigating a viral video that appears to show several people cornering and beating a man, before robbing him.

The video starts with several people leading a man out of a car. The situation quickly escalates when someone confronts him about money.

5 News is not able to independently confirm what the dispute was over.

One of the suspects is seen hitting the 30-year-old victim, who can be heard pleading "what did I do?"

"I would say they're cowards," Pete Gallo said, referring to the people seen in the video. "I can't believe that they would let that go on."

"It makes me sick to see stuff like that," Brenda Everett, a Clarksburg resident, remarked.

The video was taken down from Facebook Wednesday, but not before it received hundreds of shares and comments. Some of you told 5 News you found it especially degrading when the suspects forced the victim to strip down to his boxers. The victim is later shown leaving the scene without his clothes.

He wanted to leave and they made him get down and take his clothes off--that's just sickening," Gallo said.

In the course of the investigation, which launched Saturday, Clarksburg police say they've identified about eight people seen in the video. If arrested, the suspects could face charges of kidnapping and robbery.
