Hapless biker survives crash without a scratch only to be hit by falling lamppost he knocked over

A motorcyclist survived a high-speed crash only to be hit by a falling lamppost he knocked over in the accident .

CCTV captured the bizarre crash when biker Daniel Joventino Rumao, 21, was knocked from his machine by a motorist.

The video - now a huge social media hit - shows the car turning across the path of the motorbike and knocking Daniel's bike over in Fortim, in the eastern Brazilian state of Ceara.

But as Daniel slides, his riderless bike slams into a lamppost.

Then as the biker gets up, the lamppost topples over, hitting him right on the top of the head.

Daniel, who is a local city councillor, said: "When I saw that I was going to crash against the lamppost, I jumped from the motorbike."

After surviving the fall with barely a scratch, he stood up just at the moment when the post was falling down.

Daniel explained: "It hit me in the head and then in the legs.

"During the first few seconds I saw stars.

"Then I looked at my legs and I noticed that I was badly injured. The pain was very strong but I was conscious all the time."

Surgeons had to piece his shattered bones back together with steel pins and he is recovering in hospital.

Daniel said: "The lucky thing was to have survived. There is no greater victory than that. I was born again."

Now police are hunting for the driver, who fled following the crash.

Daniel said: "He got out of the car, looked at me and then left.

"I know that he did not want to hurt me, but I hope he will pay for the damage to my motorbike."
