'I was fighting with everyone!' Robert Pattinson reveals extreme method acting nearly cost him breakout Twilight role

Robert Pattinson was almost fired from the Twilight series that made him famous.
The 31-year-old star was so overzealous with his method acting that it nearly cost him the role of sullen vampire Edward Cullen.
He recalled how his agents had to fly to the movie set to intervene on his behalf in a recent interview

Pattinson said he brought a high level of intensity to work because he wanted to dive deep into the character that was written as angst ridden and isolated.
'I was so determined to make it so serious,' he recalled of the first film in the series.

But that kind of energy didn't work well with the rest of the cast and crew.
'I was fighting with everybody in control all the time… to the point where I almost got fired,' he said.

Toointense: Robert brought a high level of intensity to hisĀ angst ridden and isolated character Edward Cullen, who falls in love with Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart

There were rumors he even got into disagreements with Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer over character motivation.
But he said the method acting struggle paid off on screen: 'I like the first one having been so wrought.'
Overall, the Cosmopolis actor said the experience was an 'amazing luxury' and it was 'amazing luck, as well, to just have fallen into it with the group of people I worked with on it.'
Pattinson now embraces the idea that he will always be associated with the character of Cullen.
'I think one of the best things, basically, about being a bit of a sellout is if you’ve done five movies in a series, you’ve had to accept some responsibility for playing the same character.'
The movie about the difficult love affair between high school human Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, and the brooding vampire Cullen spawned four sequels and made over $3 billion in box office receipts.
Meanwhile, Pattinson was recently shopping his latest film Good Time at Cannes.
He received a six minute ovation and early Oscar buzz for playing criminal Connie Nikas who attempts a bank robbery with his brother.
Pattinson can also be seen in the upcoming High Life and The Souvenir.
