Mom Uses A Sperm Donor To Get Pregnant, Then She Tracks Down The Father

It almost seemed as though fate was working against Aminah Hart. The mother dealt with a seemingly insurmountable amount of heartache. Her first son Marlon passed away at 4 months. Then her second son, Louis, passed away at 14 months. The cause was a rare genetic condition and worst of all Aminah knew that she was the cause of it — her two sons each had different fathers. Neither of her relationships could survive the loss of a child.

“You can’t really put it into words. I had two relationships and two children but it wasn’t until the second one that I got a diagnosis of the genetic disorder,” Aminah told Dailymail.

When Aminah turned 42 she was single and childless. She had always imagined herself with kids. The grieving mother had to make a difficult decision. Knowing that there would be a 1 in 4 chance that her child would be born with the same condition, that they might also die, would she try to have another baby?

See the rest of her incredible journey below…

Aminah Hart had dealt with too much loss. Her first son, Marlon, born to her first husband, died at 4 months due to a hereditary genetic disorder. At the time doctors didn’t provide her with a diagnosis. Aminah’s  marriage couldn’t survive the loss of a child. They divorced.

Then, with a new partner, she had another son, Louis, who passed away at 14 months. Doctors discovered that Louis and Marlon had a rare condition called x-linked myotubular myopathy.

At age 42, Aminah was single and childless. She figured that if she would have a child, she would have to do it on her own but the decision wasn’t easy. There was a 1 in 4 chance that her child would have the same condition.

“It took me a long time to make the decision and I considered everything: my age, social status and that I carried a fatal genetic disorder… I had the understanding that I wasn’t a great prospect,” she told Dailymail. Finally, she decided to get a sperm donor.

In 2011, Aminah chose the sperm donation of a man named Scott Andersen. Soon after she gave birth to Leila, a healthy baby girl. It seemed it was a miracle. In 2013, Aminah’s mother, Helen, convinced her to meet Scott in person. Aminah had picked Scott out of a pile of applications; on it he said he would be happy to meet the mother.

Scott, Leila, and Aminah had a quick and obvious connection. Aminah began to take her daughter to see him every few weeks. Soon enough, Aminah and Scott began dating.

“We fell in love. It was surreal but an incredible experience,” she says. And guess what? The two are now engaged.
