Most people don’t know about this US policy airlines must follow if they lose your bag. While losing your luggage is not ideal, it doesn’t have to ruin your day.
If your bag ever gets lost when flying, go buy replacement clothes/shoes/sunglasses etc. and keep the receipts. You will get reimbursed by the airline.
As long as the total amount is less than $500, most airline reps can approve it quickly without going through corporate.
However, the airline “must cover all reasonable, actual and verifiable expenses related to baggage loss, damage or delay” up to $3,300 per passenger.
