A joint operation by Dubai and Abu Dhabi Police.
The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested two gangs, comprising 22 Asians, who defrauded people by calling them and promising them bogus cash prizes.
The gangs used to work in tandem and there was a kingpin who organised their activities.
After coordinating with their Dubai counterparts, the Abu Dhabi Police nabbed the members of both the gangs who duped the people in the phone scam.
Brigadier Imran Ahmed Al Mazrouei, director of CID at the Abu Dhabi Police, said: "The gangs, working in separate apartments, carried out their scamming schemes together. One gang made the phone calls, while the other gang used to take care of the transactions."
The Abu Dhabi Police added on its Instagram account that it has launched the campaign 'Khalik Hather' (Be Careful) to raise awareness about phone scams, pointing out that if people encounter such a case it should be reported to police via the service Aman on 8002626.
