Anwar Gargash Highlights Sadat’s Use Of Force To Achieve Lasting Peace

Marking A Historic Anniversary

Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash marked a significant historical anniversary on Tuesday. He serves as the Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President. He commemorated the 53rd anniversary of the October 1973 War. Gargash used the occasion to highlight late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s strategic brilliance.  He praised Sadat's use of military force as a vital instrument of diplomacy. Sadat understood that war served simply as an extension of politics. He utilized military power as a negotiating tool to achieve a lasting peace. This peace successfully safeguarded Egyptian national rights and sovereign interests.

A Strategic Axiom For Leaders

Gargash shared his historical reflections in a detailed social media post today. He described this principle as a fundamental strategic axiom that Sadat employed early. He noted this crucial mindset remains absent from the thinking of many modern leaders. The UAE consistently advocates for diplomatic solutions backed by strong regional defense capabilities.  Gargash's comments came as Egypt marked 53 years since the historic conflict. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi also commemorated the solemn anniversary in Cairo. He laid official wreaths at the Armed Forces Martyrs’ Memorial. He also paid his respects at the tombs of Sadat and Gamal Abdel Nasser.

The Path To Diplomacy

In his anniversary address, Al Sisi drew a direct link to modern peace efforts. He stated decades of conflict between Egypt and Israel eventually yielded to diplomacy. The region desperately needs leaders willing to end hostilities through binding treaties. Sadat led Egypt bravely during the intense 1973 war against Israel.  He later pursued complex negotiations that culminated in the 1978 Camp David Accords. These negotiations eventually produced the historic Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty in 1979. The UAE views this historical precedent as a model for resolving current conflicts.  Understand the diplomatic history shaping modern Middle Eastern politics.
