Ashghal to open Al Khor Coastal Road today

In a good news for motorists, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will open the Al Khor Coastal Road on Monday.

Ashghal will hold a ceremony near the coastal road in Lusail, north of Doha. A number of ministers, heads of different bodies and officials along with engineers and companies executing the project will attend the opening ceremony.

The stretch of the Al Khor Coastal Road extends from Doha Golf Club to Al Bayt Stadium. Built at a cost of QR7.5 billion, Al Khor Coastal Road has 34 kms of footpaths and cycling tracks. It has 15 tunnels for pedestrians and 27 tunnels for bicycles. The road is designed to accommodate 1,000 vehicles per hour instead of 400 vehicles per hour earlier. The road has five tracks, two emergency tracks in each direction, and a special rail track. It also includes two train stations — Lusail and Al Khor.

The road has 10 intersections and eight bridges. It will serve 15 residential areas, most notably Semaisma and Umm Garn and Rawdat Al Hamama, the Pearl and Legtaifiya. It provides a direct access road between Lusail and Al Bayt stadiums while Al Rayyan Stadium is easily accessible through the Orbital Road.
