A housemaid and her boyfriend, both Asians, have appeared in the Misdemeanor Court in Fujairah for having an illicit love affair.

As per the court records, the domestic helper used to work for an Emirati family in Fujairah.

The defendant began a relationship with her boyfriend over the phone, following which they decided to meet and have sex out of the wedlock at her employer's house.

The housemaid waited until her sponsor's family went out, after which she invited her boyfriend into her room in the family's house.

However, the family returned home earlier than expected.

The wife of her sponsor was surprised when she found the house to be untidy, as it was before she left there. She then called her domestic helper several times, but did not receive any reply from her.

After going to check on her, the woman was shocked to find a stranger in her maid's room.

She immediately called her husband, who alerted the Fujairah police and got the two suspects arrested.  

The Fujairah public prosecution referred them to the Misdemeanor Court on charges of committing a sin and having an illicit love affair.

The duo appeared in court where the boyfriend denied the charges, adding that there was an alleged family relation between him and the housemaid.

"She is my cousin and we never did anything wrong", he said.

The court adjourned the case to a later session to give its verdict.
