A total of 117 expats were arrested and deported in Al Buraimi Governorate, throughout the month of February, the Ministry of Manpower has announced.
The Directorate General of Manpower in Al Buriami arrested 65 expats " For violating Omani labour laws, during the month of February," the ministry said. According to authorities, the majority of the violations were over commercial permits.
"57 of the expats were arrested for violations in commercial licenses, four were working in the private professions and the other four expats in the agricultural professions," added the DG. After an investigation, it was revealed that "50 of the workers arrested were found to have left their jobs and 15 workers were freelances."
During the same period, 52 expats were deported for violating labour laws, "42 of the expats worked in the commercial profession, five of them worked in private professions and the other five worked in the agricultural profession," the Ministry added.
Authorities at the directorate general also received 48 reports of expats who have left their jobs, in February.
