More than 750 expat workers have been deported and another 859 have been arrested for violating Oman’s labour laws, the Ministry of Manpower has announced.
The workers were arrested between April 7 to 13, the Ministry revealed in its weekly indicators. It explained that the expat workers were arrested in a joint operation.
Of the total violators, 278 were ‘freelance' workers, 516 were unemployed, and 65 were undocumented workers.
Muscat recorded the highest number of arrests with 566, followed by A’Dhakiliyah with 50.
The Ministry also deported 788 workers, "As a result of violating the provisions of the Labour Law,” ministry officials said.
