Qatar welcomes all nationalities, says QA chief

Qatar is a warm and welcoming country to all, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer and Qatar National Tourism Council Secretary- General Akbar al Baker has said.

Speaking at a sohour on Wednesday, the QA chief said his statements about Egyptians during the announcement of visa on arrival programme for relatives and friends of Qatar residents were taken out of context.

“As a Qatari I spoke with emotions at a media event last weekend. And my comments about Egyptians were taken out of context literally,” he said, adding that Qatar is open to welcome all nationalities, including those from the blockading countries.

“We have over 750 Egyptians working at Qatar Airways and they are prospering and we will be hospitable to all nationalities,” he said.

Baker further said, “I know when someone speaks with emotions, the press very quickly makes a big issue out of it but we have a large diaspora of Egyptians in Qatar. They are respected and some of my senior management officials are Egyptians.”

Talking about the blockade, he said, “We are ready for reconciliation provided our dignity and sovereignty are always upheld.”
