Rescue teams are continuing the search for the family of pharmacist Sardar Fazal Ahmed, the Indian national who witnessed his family being swept away in Wadi Bani Khalid during flash floods on Saturday.
Sardar had been out for a drive with his family, when flooding in the wadi carried his car away. The family had been unaware of the weather condition, untill it took a turn for the worse, he told Times of Oman.
While Sardar managed to pull himself out of the wadi, his parents, Khan and Shabana, his wife Arshi, daughter Sidra, 4, son Zaid, 2, and newborn infant son Nooh, were all swept away. His parents had flown from India to join him in Oman, after the birth of his baby boy and were due to fly home on Sunday.
However, authorities have not yet called off the search for the family members. A statement by the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance read, "The search continues for the six people missing in Wadi Bani Khalid.
"There are no news of them being found until this moment," the statement added.
In a separate statement, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said, "Efforts are continuous to find the missing family which had gotten lost in Wadi Bani Khalid on Saturday."
"The ROP search and rescue teams are working in coordination with the Public Authority of Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA), as well as volunteer community teams in this search," the statement added.
