The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has sent out a warning to all Filipinos to not use passports as a guarantee to bail out friends and relatives caught in legal trouble in the UAE.
The consulate held that the passport is the property of the Philippine government and must be used with care, as reported by Expat Media.
As a matter of fact, the consulate has reportedly received cases where Philippine passports could no longer be claimed back from authorities because the people who used it as bail went hiding.
The consulate further noted that this practice creates problems for the passport holder, like delays in the renewal of passport or the processing of new employment visas.
