Duterte administration scores record high satisfaction rating in Q1

The Rodrigo Duterte administration has achieved a record-high satisfaction rating according to a national survey.

According to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, Duterte's rating is the highest since polls were first conducted in 1989.

In the first quarter of 2019, the SWS survey conducted from 28-31 March showed that at least 81 percent of adult Filipinos say they are satisfied with the present administration, with only 9 percent dissatisfied, and 10 percent who are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.

According to the survey, the administration's overall rating is two points above the previous record of excellent +70 in December 2017. It's a "new record-high" net satisfaction rating which at +72, is classified by SWS as "excellent."

By comparison, during the same period during former President Beningno Aquino III's third year in office, the administration received a +53 points or "very good" rating.

In the latest survey, the Duterte administration's net satisfaction rating is highest or "excellent" in helping the poor with +72 points while it is classified with a "very good" rating on reconstructing Marawi City with +58 points and fighting terrorism with +58 points.

Out of 11 specific performance subjects rated, it attained "good" ratings on seven specific issues, such as fighting crime at +48; eradicating graft and corruption at +41; defending the country's sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea at +40; ensuring that no family will ever be hungry at +37; and +40 on foreign relations.

On the other hand, it received a "moderate" score on fighting inflation with +22 points.

The SWS attributed the rise in the present administration’s overall net satisfaction rating with increases in all areas, rising from very good to excellent in Visayas, up by 11 points from +63 in December 2018 to +74 in March 2019.

In Mindanao, it stayed excellent, up by six points from +75 in December to +81 in March and "very good" in Balance Luzon, up by three points from +65 in December to +68 in March.

The same classification of "very good" was received in Metro Manila, which is up by five points from +60 in December to +65 in March.

According to SWS, the March 2019 survey was conducted from March 28-31, 2019 using face-to-face interviews of 1,440 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide: 360 each in Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao (sampling error margins of ±2.6% for national percentages, and ±5% each for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao).

The area estimates were weighted by the Philippine Statistics Authority medium-population projections for 2019 to obtain the national estimates.

Duterte's Presidential Spokesman, Salvador Panelo called the survey results a 'slap in the face of the country's critics'.

"The efforts of this Administration in serving the nation and the Filipinos are starting to bear fruit," Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
