An Arab expatriate got sentenced to three years in jail by Qatar’s Court of Misdemeanour after he was found guilty of being involved in the illegal trade of selling visas to foreigners.
The court also ordered his deportation once his sentence is completed, reported The Gulf Times.
An Asian man was also given a year’s jail sentence for the same offence. He was fined QR20,000 and ordered to be deported after serving jail time.
The police department, upon getting a tip-off about the Arab man being involved in the corrupt practice, laid out a plan to nab him.
After receiving the necessary legal approvals, an undercover security officer approached the offender and enquired about a visa worth QR5,000. Things proceeded and the suspect was apprehended while handing over the visa to the officer.
He was interrogated and he led the officers to other people involved in the crime.
Besides the two people who were fined, the court also asked for the deportation of six other expatriates after they were convicted for involvement in the illicit visa trade.
