Katara to host inaugural Dominican Week

The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Qatar are gearing up for the first ever Dominican Week to be held in Katara soon.

Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Qatar, H E Dr. Federico Alberto Cuello Camilo,  and Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara met yesterday to discuss cultural cooperation as well as plans for the upcoming Dominican Week.

In an interview on the sidelines of his visit to Katara, the ambassador hailed Katara’s strong support for the event which will have among its highlights an art exhibition showcasing Dominican Republic’s stunning beauty and charm through 30 masterpieces of Dominican painting.

“The exhibit is going to be called ‘Republic of Colour’ and it’s going to be a demonstration of how vibrant Dominican colours are. It’s a tropical island full of lush vegetation with the Caribbean sun and the Caribbean sea, so those shades of blue and green and those red sunsets are going to be reflected in a very dramatic way in the art exhibit we are going to be showcasing here,” the ambassador said in an interview posted on Katara’s social media channels yesterday.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the exhibition will be presented and managed in a creative way with controlled attendance as well as a multimedia version for those who wish to view the show from the comfort of their homes, on their laptops and mobiles, he added.

“I am delighted that we are pulling this off in spite of the fact that everything has changed because of the pandemic,” he said.

The ambassador also underlined how events such as this bring Qatar and Dominican Republic closer by working together in a number of areas including culture.

“I am very grateful of the support of Dr. Al Sulaiti and his team, and I congratulate Qatar for having a wonderful cultural centre that is Katara which is really a model for the rest of the world. Every time I come here, I find something new. It’s a place of infinite treasures to continue to discover every day,” he said.

As a leading cultural destination in Qatar, Katara has been at the forefront of promotion of culture and the arts, forging partnerships with various international institutions and embassies, organising cultural and art events such as festivals, cultural weeks, exhibitions, concerts, and theatrical performances.
