10 fascinating things to discover, see and do in Doha, Qatar

There is an option to do a dinner cruise on a dhow too, which allows you to see a different aspect of Doha, all lit up.

8. Marvel at the Majestic Grand Mosque

If you like Islamic architecture, you will be amazed at the Mosque. Visitors are allowed to look around, although women should borrow a hijab and visit the ladies section on the first floor.

On the way out, pop in to see the inner courtyard and note the symmetry that is so distinctive in Islamic designs.

9. Go shopping at the Al Hazm Mall

This is not any old shopping mall. In the entrance forecourt, you will find a miniature version of the glass pyramid from the Louvre. As you walk through the sliding doors into the main building, you will be overwhelmed by the sheer proportions and the acres of marble.

The shops here are not the run of the mill ones found in other shopping malls. Each brand is carefully curated to suit the high end luxury environment that they are catering for.

There is even a ladies only restaurant which has a terrace with the best view. A perfect place for a rest stop after shopping.

10. Get a taste of Qatar

When it Qatar, you simply must try some karak chai, a sweetened spiced tea that is found everywhere. At the Souk, find the old shops that sell halwa, a very popular local sweet, and the unique Qatari rahsah, made with tahini and flavoured with nuts and rose water.

If you have a chance, try the Qatari feast dish machbous, a massive platter of spicy meat stew on top of flavoured rice.

How to get there and where to stay

Qatar Airways flies to Doha daily. If you fly with Qatar to other destinations, there is a deal to get a free stopover which includes one night hotel and transfers.
