Earthquake Hits Southern Cities of Saudi Arabia

Monitoring stations at the Saudi Geological Survey Authority recorded an earthquake at 7:29 am local time (4:29 GMT) yesterday.

Tariq Aba Al-Khaleel, spokesman for the authority, said the quake was measured at a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale and was located northwest of the Yemeni territory, 70 kilometers away in the southern city of Dhahran Al-Janoub (Dhahran South).

He added that some residents of nearby cities felt the earthquake but it did not affect any of the Kingdom’s southern regions.

He said the cause of the tremor was due to the existence of cracks scattered in the region.
