A Highly Successful Tenure Ends
Gautam Gambhir paid a heartfelt public tribute to outgoing chief selector Ajit Agarkar today. He stated history will look kindly upon the former India all-rounder's impressive tenure. Agarkar finished his term with the Board of Control for Cricket in India recently. He took charge as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee in July 2023. Agarkar decided against seeking an official extension after his contract ended on October 4. The BCCI opened applications for one vacant position on the prestigious men’s selection committee. Gambhir worked incredibly closely with Agarkar during his current tenure as India’s head coach. He shared an emotional message honoring his colleague on the X social media platform.
Celebrating Three ICC Trophies
"Dear Ajit Bhai, an absolute honour to work with you," Gambhir wrote online. He highlighted the three ICC trophies won during Agarkar's term as proof of his conviction. He praised Agarkar for always putting the needs of the team first unconditionally. "I must say, History will be kinder to you," the head coach concluded warmly. Agarkar’s tenure coincided with one of the absolute most successful periods in Indian cricket history. India reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final under his careful squad selection. They subsequently won the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Searching For A Replacement
The 2026 triumph made India the first team to win successive T20 World Cup editions. The BCCI invited eligible former cricketers to apply for the newly vacant selection position. Candidates must meet strict requirements regarding their historical first-class and international match experience. The board will accept official applications from qualified candidates until October 14. Track the biggest names and organizational changes in international sports.
