Guardiola deflects future talk saying no decision has been made

Pep Guardiola faced Manchester City's heartbreaking title bid end on Tuesday then deflected questions again about his future, insisting no decision had yet been made while warning that it would be "wrong" to make such an announcement.

On Tuesday, City's 1-1 draw at Bournemouth dismantled hopes of a Premier League challenge with an inauspicious end when Erling Haaland's late leveller was more reliant on keeping alive the race on Sunday against Aston Villa down to little more than probably an emotional farewell for Guardiola.

Questions about his future will only add to the feeling that this era is coming to an end but Guardiola again refused to be drawn on whether he will leave in the summer.

Guardiola: 'Team Spirit More Important'

"One more year I could say, for sure my contract still one more year and with the experiences I have had so many years, it is a bad, bad result when you announce whatever you announce during the competition," Guardiola said.

"As you know I have to talk first with my chairman because we say when we finish the season we will sit down and then we are going to talk. Simple as that. And then we will make the decision.

Listen, one more year contract, I can't tell you here because I've got to speak with chairman, players, staff. When we compete in the FA Cup, prior to our qualification for the Champions League, we compete for the Premier League. What about the one thing on my mind and the aim is trying to take the team to as high points as we have.

City's hopes of a Treble end with Bournemouth draw

A frustrating draw on Tuesday in a season where City fought hard to the end but came up short at the final stop.

It also extinguished hopes of a domestic treble for City, who had already lifted the League Cup and FA Cup trophies, the latter just three days ago.

Key moments from City's campaign:

  • Title ambitions ended with Bournemouth stalemate

  • Erling Haaland showered at a late equaliser

  • City were already winners of the League Cup and FA Cop

  • The game on Sunday against Aston Villa could be an emotional goodbye for Guardiola

Guardiola warned his players they will be on show again in the second half against a side that played three games in six days.

On having so many games in a short time frame, Guardiola said:

  • Three games in six days

  • Players still threw down in challenging situations

  • The title race was very close for City until the final stages

"We went three days, three days and three (more) days," he said. "Of course, it has happened. It is what it is.

Our players have fought right to the end this season, giving absolutely everything in tough circumstances — and onto the pitch with a clear mind. We were close."
