OFW in Dubai develops new social media site

Since Filipinos are ahead of everyone else in terms of social media usage, an overseas Filipino worker based in Dubai decided to develop a new social media website for netizens around the world to use.

According to a report by Rachel Salinel for ABS-CBN, Filipino programmer and entrepreneur Louie Romero created Picstagram, which is a social media site similar to Facebook, that will help netizens socialize online.

The 41-year-old OFW said that Picstagram will not only have the usual features of other social media sites, but it will also allow users earn money through referral links and advertising. Aside from that, it can also let netizens play unlimited online games.

The report said that Picstagram was launched in 2016 with the help of the Filipino community in Dubai.

Romero said that the biggest struggles that come with establishing Picstagram is looking for funds and new users to sign up on the website.

Nevertheless, the OFW advised Filipino entrepreneurs to always believe in themselves and to give their dreams some time to make it possible.

Recent studies reveal that Filipinos are one of the most active social media users in the world.

According to the Digital 2018 report of the UK-based consultancy We Are Social, there are over 67 million accounts on Facebook in the Philippines and that every Filipino netizen spends at least 3 hours and 37 minutes per day online.
