UAE Central Bank Provides Massive Financial Relief For 155,970 Bank Customers

Protecting The National Economy

The Central Bank of the UAE granted massive financial relief to struggling bank customers nationwide. The comprehensive measures cover outstanding loans worth an impressive Dh15.9 billion. This vital relief program ran continuously through the end of August this year. Individual retail customers represent the absolute largest group benefiting from this initiative. A total of 148,681 retail customers received crucial repayment deferrals worth Dh2.3 billion. Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama disclosed these figures after meeting with major banking executives recently. The program also supported 849 private sector companies with Dh10.7 billion in financial assistance. Furthermore, 6,441 small and medium-sized enterprises secured loan deferrals worth Dh2.9 billion.

Waiving Fees And Commissions

The generous relief package also waives standard banking commissions and administrative fees entirely. The CBUAE launched the Financial Institutions Resilience Package following the regional conflict in February. The central bank aims to protect business growth and ensure broader national economic stability. Borrowers utilized these beneficial schemes heavily to manage their monthly financial obligations. Lenders including Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Emirates NBD ran their own concurrent relief schemes. UAE banking assets still managed to rise 12.9 percent year-on-year by the end of August. Total lending jumped 18.8 percent, and customer deposits grew by a solid 13 percent. The non-performing loan ratio fell, proving the fundamental strength of the national banking sector.

Driving Digital Transformation

Governor Balama urged lenders to accelerate their digital transformation and strengthen consumer protection measures. He demanded tight governance, rigorous risk management, and absolute regulatory compliance moving forward. The UAE deployed a similar massive stimulus strategy successfully during the 2020 pandemic outbreak. Make informed financial decisions using the latest national economic data.
