Young Leaders Prepare To Shape Global Water Agenda At UN Conference

Empowering The Global Youth Water Envoys

One hundred young people from 75 countries will gather in Abu Dhabi soon. They will prepare to contribute to the 2026 United Nations Water Conference. The Arab Youth Center announced the initiative during a virtual press conference. The group, called the Global Youth Water Envoys, represents six global regions. The UAE and Senegal will co-host the major conference in Abu Dhabi. The event runs from December 8 to 10 in the UAE capital. The Envoys will take part in an intensive virtual learning program first. They will complete foundational training before moving into specialized conference tracks.

Drafting A Unified Vision

Their discussions will ultimately produce a consolidated Global Youth Water Statement. The cohort features backgrounds in research, public policy, engineering, and entrepreneurship. It includes experts in hydrology, environmental law, and complex water governance. The selection committee reviewed more than 2,000 global applications for the program. The independent committee included representatives from UNICEF, UNEP, and the World Water Council. The multi-stage process was designed to be completely fair and unbiased. Fatima Behzad Afghan of the UAE addressed the virtual gathering today. She works on stormwater infrastructure design and hopes to advance public-private partnerships.

Bringing Science And Community Together

She noted that attracting investment in water infrastructure requires very clear frameworks. Lissong Diop of Senegal also spoke regarding his research using artificial intelligence. He believes scientific data and local knowledge can inform better water governance. Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi serves as the UAE's Minister of State. He stated the Envoys would attend the conference as highly informed contributors. Officials stressed that young people belong in the center of water diplomacy. They want the Envoys to participate directly in international decision-making processes. Learn how education and science are shaping the future of the Emirates.
