Puerto Ricans arriving in Florida is being recorded from October 3 even though the hurricane came down on the island on September 20.
Over 73,000 people have fled the hurricane-ravaged territory of Puerto Rico for Florida after Hurricane Maria left the US territory devastated. Many on the island are still without power and those in interior areas are still to receive help.
Governor Rick Scott said that more than 73,000 people arrived in Florida through Miami International Airport, Everglades Port, and Orlando International Airport. The state made provisions for disaster relief centers at the two airports and port because of the emergency declaration. More than 15,000 people have been served.
Red Cross, FEMA and other state agencies for children and families are providing help to the people who have fled the island. Puerto Ricans have US citizenship as they are an American territory. Schools in Florida have registered over 3,500 students who have been forced to leave Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. 75 percent of the people are still without power and clean water in many areas.
