US Intensifies Enforcement Of Iran Naval Blockade In The Gulf

Disabling Commercial Vessels

The US military significantly ramped up the enforcement of its strict naval blockade. Forces are actively choking off Iranian ports to restrict the nation's oil exports. Over the past three months, the US military disabled four commercial vessels. They also forced 135 ships to turn around and abandon their routes. Furthermore, they destroyed 10 tankers linked directly to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. According to CentCom, a US fighter jet recently struck the M/V Ocean Molica. The pilot used a precision munition to hit the stern of the Panama-flagged vessel. The strike successfully disabled the ship's propulsion system without harming the crew.

Ignoring Military Warnings

CentCom stated the cargo vessel's crew ignored repeated warnings from naval forces. They attempted to run the blockade after previously departing from an Iranian port. CentCom claims the blockade prevents Iran from exporting any oil through the line. However, independent verification of that specific claim remains extremely limited currently. This escalation comes as attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz surge. At least a dozen ships were attacked in the week ending October 5. This represents the absolute highest number of attacks since the war began. Efforts to end the war through regional diplomacy have completely stalled recently.

Advising Mariners In The Region

This stalemate keeps the naval blockade and military pressure firmly in place. CentCom advises all mariners to heed official blockade warnings without hesitation. Ships must monitor Notice to Mariners broadcasts and contact US naval forces continuously. The US naval blockade was originally reimposed on July 14, 2026. It forms part of Washington’s broader campaign to pressure the Iranian regime economically. A disruption in global shipping routes drastically increases the cost of imported goods.
