The hot and sandy Middle-Eastern country has a vast kaleidoscope of culture and landscape to explore, amid all the global advancements. While sand dunes cover most of the country, there are parts of the coastline that are flat and barren, and mountains can be found in the east.

 

Here’s a list of cool facts about the UAE that you must know if you’re planning to visit or live there for a while. People who are already well-versed with the country can also refresh their local knowledge.

1. The country is spread over a total land area of 32,278 square miles, roughly 1/3 of the size of the United Kingdom. The residents are known as the Emiratis and the capital city, Abu Dhabi is 375 square miles in size.

2. Abu Dhabi’s Sir Bani Yas Island used to be a royal hunting preserve long back, but now it hosts Cheetahs, hyenas, Arabian oryx, and thousands of other animals that run wild.

3. The famous Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has more than 20 rides and attractions, including the world’s fastest roller coaster.

4. Here’s one of the coolest things about the country- a literacy rate of 93%. Another thing to brag about is that Masdar City is the first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city in the world.

5. The Dubai police fleet has fast cars like Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Bentley to catch speeders who can outrun most other cars.

6. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is at a height of 2,722 feet is known as the world’s tallest building. It was named in honor of the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

7. In fact, seven out of the ten tallest hotels in the world are in Dubai. Burj Al Arab, a luxury hotel designed to mimic the sail of a ship is the third on this list.

8. There are ATMs in Dubai that dispense out gold bars. Now that’s really rich.

9. Two of the world’s largest man-made islands in the world, The Palm islands, and The World are on the coast of Dubai.

10. One of the busiest airports in the world is DXB, Dubai International Airport.
