4. City Hall Subway, New York City
Designed in 1904 by Rafael Guastavino, this station opened directly below City Hall. As a result of cultural changes when commuters switched to speed from style, the station closed in 1940 to give way to the Brooklyn Bridge station.
5. Kolmanskop, Namibia
Popular for diamond mining this town of Kolmanskop was a vision of extravagance in 1908. When the inhabitants found more diamonds south of Kolmanskop, the town turned into a ghost town. It is eerily beautiful, isn’t it?
