Donald Trump Fights Off Angry Protesters At Massive Texas Rally

Rallying Support In A Red State

President Donald Trump faced loud protesters and a difficult political climate on Wednesday. He fought to rally Texas voters behind embattled Senate candidate Ken Paxton. Trump wants to stave off a blue wave in the nation's most populous red state. He spoke to a packed, energetic crowd at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio. Trump used the stage to clarify controversial recent comments regarding foreign policy. He previously appeared to suggest bombing an American city was an acceptable price. He clarified Wednesday that Iran might try to hit an American city with a missile. "We’re not going to let that happen. We protect our cities," Trump declared loudly.

Protesters Interrupt The President

Protesters interrupted the president's message repeatedly throughout the evening. One demonstrator appeared to get incredibly close to the main stage. At least a dozen different demonstrators disrupted the president's speech overall. Police officers led several of the disruptive individuals away from the venue. Trump stepped away from the microphone briefly after one particularly loud interruption. "He’s going back home to mom," Trump joked about the removed protester. The Republican Party did not plan to spend massive resources in Texas this season. Trump won the state by almost 14 percentage points back in 2024.

A Tight Senate Race

However, poor approval ratings and the Iran war threaten Republicans across the board. Trump has visited Texas three times in less than a single month. Party officials have poured more than $300 million into local state elections recently. Republican Governor Greg Abbott notably did not attend the evening rally. Abbott faces a highly competitive reelection race against Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa. The state’s U.S. Senate race draws the most national attention currently.
