Police authorities in Macau are searching for a Filipino domestic helper who was considered a person of interest in a theft case after she did not report to work on Monday, the same day her employer’s caretaker discovered losing jewelry worth HK$530,000 (P3.43 million).
The employer, a 65-year-old woman surnamed Wong, was reportedly in Canada during the commision of crime. When the maid did not show up for work after a four-day holiday, the husband of Wong’s appointed person, who also lived in the apartment at Lake View Mansion where the helper was on duty, was asked to check for any signs of burglary. The husband later found a closed drawer that showed signs of being forcibly opened.
Wong witnessed from a distance through a mobile phone camera as the drawer was opened. The victim determined that a diamond watch, a diamond ring, a pendant and a pair of ruby earrings were missing from the drawer and asked her friend to call the police.
The case has since been classified as theft.
Journal Va Kio reported that it remains unclear if the Filipina maid is indeed involved in the case.
