11-year-old girl made to stand inside boys' toilet as punishment

A school in Hyderabad went to shocking lengths to shame a student for not wearing the proper uniform.

An 11-year-old girl student of Rao's High School was made to stand inside the boys' toilet as punishment.

The Class V student was also shouted at by teachers.

"I have decided that I won't go back to the school," she said.

What happened?

According to the alleged victim, she couldn't wear the uniform that day as her mother had washed it.

When her PT teacher enquired, she explained. Her parents had also written a note.

But the teacher didn't listen, shouted at her and made her stand inside the boy's toilet.

She was allowed to go later, but other students saw her and made fun of her.

What's happening at the school now?

The girl said the teacher had also told others about the incident. A case has been lodged against the school under the POCSO Act. "We want to press criminal charges against the school and teachers," said child rights activist Achyuta Rao.
