BREAKING: Islamic State (Daesh) claims responsibility for Sri Lanka bombings

Sri Lanka defence minister says bombings were response to killing of Muslims in Christchurch

The group did not give evidence for its claim.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for coordinated bombings in Sri Lanka which killed 321 people and injured about 500 others, the group's AMAQ news agency said on Tuesday.

The claim said: "The perpetrators of the attack that targeted nationals of the countries of the coalitions and Christians in Sri Lanka before yesterday are fighters from Daesh."

It offered no photographs or videos of attackers pledging their loyalty to the group.

The group, which has lost all the territory it once held in Iraq and Syria, has made a series of unsupported claims of responsibility.

Sri Lankan officials have blamed a local extremist group for the attack.
