'Dead woman' returns, says husband killed daughters

A week after a man allegedly pushed off four of his daughters from a running train, resulting in the death of one of the girls in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district, government railway police (GRP) traced the culprit's house in Bihar's Bettiah town. The accused, however, is still on the run.

On October 24, Mohd Iddu, boarded a train from his hometown to Jammu and in the course of the journey pushed off the four minor girls -Rubina, 12; Albun, 9; Muniya, 7 and Shamina, 4 --from the running train for unknown reasons.

Police had recovered two bodies from along the railway tracks, and identified one as Iddu's 7-year-old daughter, while the second body was believed to be his wife, Afreen Khatoon.

However, Khatoon returned to Bettiah on Tuesday , with the couple's 2-year-old daughter, raising questions about the identity of the body recovered by the police on October 24. The GRP team, which reached on Wednesday , said Iddu, who lives with his stepson, left his house on October 29. Iddu worked a labourer in Jammu, and cops are camping there to trace him.

Sources said Khatoon, who returned to Bettiah on Tuesday , told cops that Iddu pushed off the girls from the train while she was asleep with her youngest daughter. After the assault, Iddu abandoned his wife and deboarded the train at Jammu on October 25.
