Doctor Who Found Osama For US Forces Gets Death Threats In Peshawar, Shifted To Another Jail

The Pakistani doctor who had helped CIA locating Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden, in Abbottabad in 2011 has been shifted to an undisclosed location from Peshawar jail citing security concerns. Dr Shakil Afridi had been kept in the central prison of Peshawar for almost seven years after he ran a phoney vaccination campaign in Abbottabad city to help the CIA track down the kill Osama Bin Laden on May 2,  2011.

A year later, Dr Shakeel Afridi was given 33 years of imprisonment for anti-state activities by a tribal court.

Speaking to the Express Tribune, a jail official said a large contingent of army and police took away him from the prison on Friday. The official also said that he was unaware of the place Dr Afridi might have been taken to.

According to the report, the provincial government had been demanding the federal government move Afridi from the Peshawar prison as hardcore Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants were lodged in same premises which might pose a threat to his life.
