Honda became the first company to receive a five-star FIA Road Safety Index rating. This new highest rating recognizes the company's commitment to improving global road safety. The FIA Road Safety Index helps organizations measure their impact on road safety. It provides a comprehensive evaluation of corporate road safety initiatives globally. The recognition occurred at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Italy this September.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem congratulated Honda on leading the way. He emphasized that road safety requires action across both public and private sectors. Honda Motor director Shunsuke Yamada called the rating a significant achievement. The company strives to halve traffic collision fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 2030. They ultimately aim to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities by the year 2050.
Expanding Safety Assessments Globally
Honda expanded the scope of its safety assessment to 17 different countries. These countries account for over 90 percent of its global sales volume. The FIA highly regarded Honda's mid-to-long-term safety strategy and top management involvement. They also praised Honda's safety training program for commercial delivery riders in Dubai. Honda partnered with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority for this specific initiative.
The intensive two-day training event targeted riders from major food delivery platforms. The initiative aimed to cultivate a road culture rooted in discipline and responsibility. The FIA expanded its index from three to five stars to strengthen its methodology. The system evaluates both the corporate supply chain and the safety of products. Honda received the highest five-star rating in the products and services category.
The company promises to continue verifying the effectiveness of its safety technologies. They use real-world traffic collision data to inform their engineering processes. Corporate leadership plays a vital role in fostering a broad safety culture.
