The father, identified as Sanjay Alwi, was arrested by the police on charges of attempt to murder on Saturday. However, following the discovery of his son’s body, he has now been booked for murder, police said.
Police said that Alwi is an e-rickshaw driver by profession and lived with his grandmother. His wife, Ashma, and he have three children – 11-year-old Nargis, 10-year old Armaan and six-year-old Ayaan.  His wife had left him a few years ago and lived at her parental house in Sonipat, as per the police probe.

Cops said that the accused is a resident of Madanpur Khadar in Delhi and had come to the Khadar Puliya with his son on Saturday. The young boy reportedly urged his father to buy him a plate of momos. Infuriated by his son’s insistent demand, the accused, who was also under the influence of liquor, picked him up and threw him down the canal, cops said. Passers-by witnessed the incident and caught the accused, a police statement said.

Following this, the police arranged for local divers, while the rescue and disaster management team, as well as the fire brigade, rushed to the spot. However, despite the rescue operation, the boy couldn’t be saved and his body was recovered earlier today.
