Man gets daughter killed to marry lover

Eager to meet the precondition of a woman he wanted to marry, a 34-year-old man had his seven-year-old daughter from an earlier marriage killed in Aman Vihar in outer Delhi. He also planned to have his two sons similarly eliminated.

Police revealed on Saturday that Dharamvir, who had lost his wife to Hepatitis B in June, had fallen in love with another woman, who promised to marry him only if he did not saddle her with the care of the three children. The man made arrangements for the wedding and then promised his nephew Sanjay Rs 30,000 to kill his kids one by one and make them look like natural deaths.

MN Tiwari, DCP (Outer) confirmed that both Dharamvir and Sanjay had been arrested and investigations were on. "We registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy based on the preliminary findings against the two men," said Tiwari, who refused to elaborate further.

On August 11, Dharamvir was preparing to secretly cremate his daughter Tanisha, when neighbours alerted police to the suspicious circumstances of her death. The girl's body was taken for autopsy, which revealed that she had been strangled to death. Strangely, when the cops informed the father about this, he was reluctant to register a complaint.

A police team led by special staff inspector Sukhbir Malik were convinced that someone known to the family was behind the crime. While questioning Dharamvir's family members, the cops discovered that Sanjay was missing from the house. Police got the information on Friday that Sanjay was on his way to his home village in Bulandshahr and apprehended him at Prem Vihar in east Delhi.

On being interrogated, Sanjay confessed to having killed the girl on August 10 as she was watching TV. But what astounded the cops was the nephew claiming that Dharamvir had held his daughter as he strangled her with a piece of cloth. He also admitted that his uncle had promised him Rs 30,000 for the job and had given him Rs 5,000 as an advance. Police suspect some other family members might also be involved in covering up the murder.

After losing his wife in June, Dharamvir was left with sons Tarun (12) and Ishan (9) and Tanisha. The children were a hurdle in his wish to marry a second time to a woman who insisted she would not be able to look after them.
