Oldest Living City In The World Is Getting A Makeover

One of the 100 cities to receive trillions of rupees to rebuild their aging infrastructure under ‘Smart Cities’ is the holy city of Varanasi. The government is increasing the steel-making capacity by three times to build the new version of the beautiful Varanasi. The steel-making capacity hike brings India to the position of world’s second-biggest steel producer, bypassing even Japan.

According to the World Steel Association, India consumed 63 kgs of steel per person while China used up 493 kgs. JSW Steel Ltd., the biggest producer in India, has planned to build two new plants with 10 million tons capacity in Odisha and Jharkhand while spending billions of bucks on the expansion and development of existing mills, by 2030. Meanwhile, Tata Steel Ltd. Has asked for an environmental clearance to expand their two plants by 4 million tons per year.

Other cities to get a makeover under the ‘Smart Cities’ scheme are; Jaipur, Kanpur, and Lucknow, however, Varanasi is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's a major part of the plan to transform India.

Mayor of Varanasi, Ram Gopal Mohley, is rooting for PM Modi’s support in the city’s renovation which is long overdue.
